This site is dedicated to the late Bill Phippen (Flight Instructor).

Bill Phippen

ill Phippen was my flight instructor. He took me through the private pilot training course in two days short of two months, from my very first flying lesson to my private pilot check ride. Bill was in a tragic plane crash and killed on July 14, 1994, on the same day that he gave me my first BFR. I almost quit flying because of that crash, but realized that everything that Bill stood for in my mind, would be lost, and that would be like him dying in vain. Two weeks later, I took the J3 cub up and prayed, circling around in the same area that Bill would take me for practice. I felt his presence there with me on that day, and that made me feel a lot better about what I was doing. When I fly now, I have Bill with me, and try to remember everything he taught me. Bill was the best flight instructor I have ever met and I will never find another one like him, but life must go on, and I will have to do with someone else, but I have the satisfaction of knowing that Bill is in that plane with me every time I fly. I will miss you Bill.
